Raiders romp to 13th straight district title

Fort Lauderdale

Winning district games is what St. Thomas Aquinas does. It's 54 consecutive and counting.

After all was said and done, the Raiders had rolled to a 51-7 victory, picking up their 13th straight district championship in their usual crushing fashion.

"I thought our defense did a nice job," said coach George Smith. "[South Broward] wanted to run Kevin [Grooms] a lot, and we didn't quite let him get loose. I thought that was the key to the game."

Grooms came into the game averaging over 150 yards a game for the Bulldogs (8-1, 2-1), but he was held to 72 yards rushing by Aquinas (9-0, 3-0), which was led on the ground by James White's 121-yard, two-touchdown performance.

St. Thomas took advantage of two Grooms fumbles to lead 30-0 at the break.

Three third-quarter touchdowns, including a 99-yard kickoff return by Lamarcus Joyner to open the second half, put things away.
